Having recently returned from the UK, I am happy to report that the MAST Advanced Workshop on Disruptive Technology in the Maritime Domain was a great success. We were exposed to world leading scholars in the fields of computer sciences (Professor Sir Nigel Shadbolt BA MA PhD FRS FREng FBCS, Principal of Jesus College Oxford University), naval history (Professor Andrew Lambert FRHistS Laughton Professor of Naval History in the Department of War Studies, King’s College London) as well as Naval and Industry practitioners such as Col. Dan Cheesman Royal Marines, the Chief Technology Officer to the Royal Navy Board and Dr. John Best, Chief Technology Officer and Vice President of Thales Australia.
The workshop was well attended by representatives from European navies, European naval industry and the Australian Defence Headquarters – London.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank Mr. Warren Edge of MAST and his support team ably led by Mr. Eike Eickhoff for their support.
Importantly, my deepest gratitude to my friend and colleague throughout this journey, CDRE Patrick J. Tyrrell OBE RN (Ret’d). It was a long journey to get here, but we laid the foundations for something truly great!
